GLAS acceptance letters started reaching farmers last Monday and 12,576 of the 14,000 applicants to the scheme have been approved so far.

The Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said all applications received have gone through the pre-approval validation checking process.

He was responding to a parliamentary question from TD Charlie McConalogue.

Of the approved applicants into tranche three, 6,367 are in Tier 1, 5,575 are in Tier 2 and 634 are in Tier 3.

“A further 1,400 applications require further investigation and this work is on-going,” Minister Creed said.

Delay in payments

There are 6,578 farmers still waiting on GLAS payments, with Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Andrew Doyle being one of them.

The delays in payments are causing extreme cashflow difficulties on farms around the country.

Minister Creed admitted recently to the Irish Farmers Journal that he could not say when payments will be made and apologised to farmers who are waiting.
