Once again, crowds descended to the main ring of Tullamore Show on Sunday evening to see the best of the best cattle in each breed come to collect their gold and silver medals. These medallions are much sought-after in the livestock world and once a breeder receives one, it’s held in the highest esteem.

Browse the slideshow above to see pictures of the winners and listen to an interview with Canadian Angus judge Lee Wilson in our podcast below:

Listed below are some more of the very worthy gold medal champions across the pedigree beef, dairy and commercial sections for 2017.

  • AIB National Livestock Show Irish Moiled champion: Seamus Holmes, Clonarl, Killygordon, Lifford, Co Donegal, was the top recipient in the Irish Moiled breed section. His Dungallia Bean an Ti had a stellar start to the show season, securing the junior breed championship at Balmoral Show in May. Born April 2016, Bean an Ti is sired by Curraghnakeely Palmer and out of Dungallia Colleen.
  • AIB National Livestock Show Aubrac champion: Angela Kehoe, Ballycullane, New Ross, Co Wexford, was out in front for the Aubrac breed. Her 18-month-old heifer Boleyrock Lilac is sired by Heriter and out of Historie.
  • AIB National Livestock Show Blonde d’Aquitaine champion: John and Stephen Lynch, Ballinascraw, Ballinalee, Co Longford, continued their winning ways in the Blonde ring to make it three years in a row. Their seven-month-old calf Ballinascraw Lady in Red ticked all the boxes for the judge. She is out of Ballinascraw Glory, a cow who also won her first overall Tullamore championship at seven months and later went on to secure a further three, her most recent just last year.
  • AIB National Livestock Show junior Holstein Friesian dairy champion: E and S Murphy, Coolowen, Blarney, Co Cork, were top of the junior Holsteins with Ardarostig Beemer Sunray. This January 2017-born daughter of Beemer is out of a Shottle-bred dam. Having secured the junior championships at Bandon and Charleville already this year, she was right on form to do the same last Sunday in Tullamore.
