Comment: IFA national pigs committee chair Pat O’Flaherty said that pig farmers are satisfied that the factories that passed back another 4c/kg this week are genuinely trying to reflect the market realities that are currently positive for sales. The bottom line is that the export market is very strong, imports into this country are lower this year and our retail trade continues to support Irish producers. Any fall-off in this is being watched closely by the IFA and will be targeted as the home market and export market are of equal importance at this juncture. This price increase will bring the Irish price closer to the EU average, but we are still considerably behind, especially the factory that is lagging by 4c/kg.
