While baled silage has been made in paddocks in recent weeks, the main season silage harvest is about a week away from commencing. Merchants report the strongest demand in the south of the country, with demand rising steadily over the last week to 10 days. Prices for bale wrap are steady, with a range of €82 to €85 generally quoted. Lower prices of €80 were secured for bulk sales while some prices were as high as €90 per roll.
Pit silage covers have also remained the same, with the average cost still €150 for a 60ft x 120ft cover with the cost of a 36ft x 75ft cover ranging between €50-€55 per roll.
