Some of the first public auctions of 2016 are scheduled for early March. These include a 53.9-acre farm at Lyons Road, Newcastle, Co Dublin, a 33-acre residential parcel at Laragh, Maynooth, Co Kildare, a 42-acre farm at Glenfield Portlaoise, Co Laois, and a 55.5-acre farm at Kilcormac, Blueball, Co Offaly.

Given the horrendous weather over the past two months, it wouldn’t be totally wrong to come to the conclusion that the 2016 spring season for land sales might be slightly later than other years. In the main, agents generally advise their clients to wait until weather conditions pick up as farms can then be presented for sale in a more favourable manner.

Supply of land

March is usually the month when the momentum kicks off in the farm sales market. Although there are still a couple of weeks to go, the supply of land to the market so far this year is not on a par with the surge of land brought to the market in February and March last year. But time will tell.

This week’s property section in Irish Country Living previews some of the farms that will be auctioned in early March.
