It’s not very often that I’m asked to view 100-acre farms in the Moylough region of Co Galway. Farms of this size are pretty rare gems in the area and when they offer the complete package in terms of a house, yard and excellent-quality grazing ground, they are sure to grab attention not only from locals but also from those further afield.

To this end, a 120-acre residential farm situated at Cooloo, Moylough, Co Galway has just been brought to the market by Murtagh Bros, Mullingar. Used to fatten beef cattle for a long number of years, Cooloo has been let out in recent years to two local farmers who have maintained the property as if it was their own. My first impressions as I drove in along the stone entrance towards the yard were; neat, tidy and extremely well laid out.

It’s obvious from the presentation of the farm that the late owner of Cooloo was not only a tasty operator, but also quite a progressive individual. It’s unusual to come across a beef farm for sale anywhere in Ireland that contains a structured paddock system – this is generally associated with dairy farms. But the Cooloo property clearly bucks this trend with its expansive paddock system and fully fenced grass passageways for easy movement of cattle.

Situated on the main Roscommon/Galway road, Cooloo comes to the market with a four-bedroom bungalow residence, a farmyard that contains two slatted sheds and 120 acres of top-quality grazing land. For more see this week’s property pages in the Irish Farmers Journal.
