Fresh from a reserve place with her Lancelot dam in The Irish Field Breeders’ Championship, the O’Sullivan brothers claimed an individual title for their O.B.O.S Quality filly in last Sunday’s final at Moate Show.

Sold at Dublin to P.J Glynn, the athletic filly stood out from the dozen finalists from her initial trot-up and was duly pulled in first, and retained that place for her Kildysart handlers.

Keen amateur eventers John Joe and Jane Grace are usually seen at Eventing Ireland fixtures but their Sunday off resulted in a reserve champion place for the Roscrea couple with their Rosheen Yeats filly.

Her Farlow dam was also a previous All-Ireland finalist for her late owner, Michael Ryan from Borris-in-Ossory.

Zooming right up the line-up to third place for her Enniscorthy owner was Lisa Comiskey Donnelly’s traditionally-bred Financial Reward filly.

More Moate champions included Tom McNamara’s ridden horse Shanbally Huntsman (by Glid Uibhall), twice second in his previous Dublin heavyweight class outings to the eventual supreme champions Fort Knocks (2016) and Mossy (2017).

John and Mary Margaret Roche’s Assagart Kingstead Fiona (Huntingfield Rebel) and Tom Mooney’s Fintan Himself filly were the broodmare and foal champions, while Alison Rountree’s Natal two-year-old won the young horse title.

Judge's comment

“As soon as she entered the ring, she just looked the part and she really moved, a great step. I’d say she’ll turn into a really nice performance mare.”

– Maura Rooney commenting on the O.B.O.S Quality champion.
