Forward bullocks were met with strong demand and, where available, they sold mainly from €2.00/kg to €2.30/kg.

Average-quality types from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €2.10/kg to €2.25/kg, with better-quality U grades making from €2.30/kg to €2.40/kg in some cases.

Farmers were active for lighter types also, with a significant increase in demand for good-quality Angus steers. Angus types sold mainly from €2.10/kg to €2.30/kg.

Weanlings

Weanling bulls were met with very strong demand also.

Good-quality bulls from 300kg to 400kg sold mainly from €800 to €950, with some top-quality types breaking €1,000/head. Those from 200kg to 300kg sold mainly from €700 to €850.

The heifer trade was brisk.

Those from 300kg to 400kg were a very strong trade, with most good-quality types making from €850 to €950.

Top-quality lots over 350kg sold for up to €1,000. Heavier heifers were a solid trade also, but were better value on a price per kg basis than light weanlings. The ringside was crowded with buyers, and more farmers seem to be buying earlier this year.

Cull cows

The cull cow ring saw a very lively trade also. Feeding cows sold mainly from €1.50/kg to €1.70/kg, with those carrying flesh making from €1.70/kg to €1.85/kg.

Young cows and U grade cows made from €1.90/kg to €2.10/kg.

Headford Mart

At Headford Mart, bullocks made from €135 to €755 over the €/kg, with the top bullock weighing 595kg and making €1,350. Heifers made from €305 to €760 over the €/kg. The top heifer sold was a Charolais weighing 570kg which made €1,330.

Weanling heifers made from €250 to €550 over €/kg, while weanling bulls made from €240 to €610 over the €/kg. Cull ewes made from €60 to €100.

Lambs made from €72 to €114. In-lamb ewes made from €150 to €175.
