There is no doubting the convenience of quick attachment systems for tractors or industrial loaders. Loading feeder wagons with a combination of feedstuffs that require changing loader implements is made quick and easy by such systems. However, it is easy to leave an implement unlocked, with potentially devastating results.

Here we look at how you can reduce the risk of such an incident. A little maintenance on these locking systems will go a long way. There are many different quick-attach latching systems. Most are excellent, especially on modern tractor loaders and handlers.

One of the biggest challenges is being able to see if latching pins are in place.

Here we take two popular machines –a Manitou MLT629 and a Tanco T100 loader – and add a little colour to demonstrate what can be done to make farming safer. We also check for proper function and operation of the quick-attach mechanism. Always remember to leave the loader in the lowered position when unattended – this may prevent an injury.
