The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is to review whether quad bike drivers will have to wear a helmet on public roads.
An RSA spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal legislation is being considered.
“Currently, this is not a legal requirement as the regulations regarding compulsory wearing of a safety helmet relate to two-wheeled motor cycles only.
The RSA strongly recommends that you always wear a helmet when riding/driving a quad. Any new legislation would be a matter for the Department of Transport but we will certainly be reviewing the situation in light of the developments in [Northern] Ireland.”
Northern Ireland’s government has made it mandatory, under law, for farmers to wear a helmet on public roads while driving their quads.
