Jackie Cahill’s presence at the North Tipperary IFA AGM led to a lively meeting. A walk-out in protest at his presence occurred. It’s hard to know if it was in objection to his current role as a TD or his past one as ICMSA president. Beet is probably the most divisive four-letter word in IFA and, sure enough, a long-ago-but-not-forgotten beet boycott was raised by former county chair Mattie Butler. Another former chair Philip Kinane said the tradition was either all politicians be invited, or none. The Tipp North executive officers met on Monday to clear the air. My understanding is that a line has been drawn under the events.
