Scotch beef and lamb, as well as a range of other food product,s are on offer to visitors at SIAL Toronto this week.

QMS were offering samples to visitors supplied by Highland Meats and Donald Russell. While there was a large EU participation in the event, QMS were the only meat exhibitor from the British Isles.

Niall Browne, chief executive of Irish-based Dawn Meats – who are the owners of Highland Meats – was in attendance at the show as well as representatives from Foyle Meats and Ornua, the Irish dairy company.

Meanwhile, others representing the UK included Muller Milk & Ingredients and the Scotch whisky association.

Canada is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, with an economy that consistently outperforms the other G7 countries for growth. It has a population of 33 million and while a huge exporter of beef – three quarters of which goes to the USA – it is also a significant importer of beef and particularly lamb. New Zealand is its main lamb supplier, and this is where QMS see the initial opportunity for exports.

While QMS shared the stand with the rest of the Scottish food industry, meat was the only product that was sampled. Head of marketing with QMS, Laurent Vernet doubled up his duties by cooking and serving the product as well as telling the story.

A full detailed analysis of QMS participation in SIAL and their marketing and promotion of beef, lamb and pork will feature in the print edition of Farmers Journal Scotland on 3 June.
