Sheep farmers who are have hoggets or spring lambs left to sell are enjoying a buoyant trade. Quotes for hoggets for Thursday have increased by 30c/kg, with Kildare Chilling the best priced plant with a base of €6.30/kg plus a 10c/kg QA bonus. The latest lift will leave top-priced hoggets and spring lambs returning a margin of €140 to €150. Hoggets are over €1/kg above 2017 levels with spring lambs running 70c/kg to 80c/kg above last year’s levels.
