Prices for spring lambs and hoggets remain static this week. The long weekend meant there were fewer kill days available for processors while a large kill of over 55,000 head in the previous week tempered their appetite.

Farmers are being paid €6.10/kg to €6.20/kg for quality assured spring lambs to a 20kg slaughter weight. Hoggets are moving at €5.00/kg to €5.05/kg for non-QA lots with €5.10/kg the top price paid for QA lots.

There are indications that hogget supplies will begin to dry up and this may spark a recovery in price if spring lamb numbers can’t plug the gap.
