Tuesday’s sheep sale at Donegal Mart saw a slightly smaller entry of sheep on offer.

According to mart Manager, Eimear McGuinness, the trade was quite firm on the last sale and buyer activity remained solid. There was a steady trade for factory lambs, with all good quality fleshed types selling from €92 to €101. Butchers were also active for all heavy types on the day.

Ewe lambs were met with steady demand from farmers, prices ranged mainly from €90 to €105 as a result. Farmer buyers were active once again for all store lambs. Forward stores sold mainly from €74 to €83/head, which was similar to prices paid in previous weeks.

Lighter lambs carrying little flesh received the weakest prices, while there was strong demand for short-keep stores carrying some flesh.

There was a good entry of mountain lambs on offer also, Eimear said that the prices of these ranged mainly from to €44 to €48/head, with some light types selling for under €40. Hoggets were a solid trade backed by strong farmer activity.

Prices of hoggets ranged mainly from €110 to €125 per head. Feeding ewes sold from € 32 to €44 per head, while fleshed ewes were snapped up from €52 to €78 per head.
