The overall interbreed championship went to Mallow, with Peter O’Connell claiming the title with his February 2014 heifer Raceview Faustina Wynty. Sired by Drumlone Anchor 09 with the dam going back to the renowned Matilda line, she claimed the title having only been shown once before. She was reserve national senior heifer champion in Tullamore a fortnight ago.

Claiming the reserve interbreed title was Mogeely Miylo P291 from Albert and Jennifer DeCogan. This January 2014-born heifer is no stranger to success having claimed numerous overall championships throughout the summer.

Reserve Simmental and Angus

The reserve Simmental championship was claimed by Brideland Gatsby. This Herkules-sired son won the Southern Simmental Club yearling bull championship back in early July at Barryroe Show.

The reserve Angus championship went to Ruth and James Good with Carrigroe Hessey. This November 2010-born cow was shown with her twin calves at foot.

Hereford

In the Hereford section, Tom Roycroft claimed top honours with Springvilla Miriam, a September 2010-born cow. In reserve was Adrian Bateman’s September 2015-born heifer, Slieveroe Pandora’s Charm. She is sired by Trillick Hotspur and is out of a homebred dam, Slieveroe Elsie.

Commercial and Belgian Blue

In the commercial section, Tim O’Donovan’s September 2015 Charalois-cross heifer Sophia took the overall championship honours. The O’Donovans’ January 2016 BBX heifer Lucky was in reserve.

While in the Belgian Blue section, Tim O’Donovan rounded off a good day with Don Korley claiming the overall championship. This January 2016 heifer claimed the reserve All-Ireland Belgian Blue junior heifer title at Tinahely a couple of weeks ago. In reserve was Don Baz, a September 2015 bull calf.

Limousin

In the Limousin section, Dan O’Mahony claimed both the overall and reserve championship titles. The September 2013 heifer Ballygarvan Stud Helga claimed the top honours while her November 2015 stablemate Ballygarvan Stud Kelly was in reserve.

This rounded off a busy week for Dan O’Mahony as he was leading the International Limousin Congress as president of the Irish Limousin Society while also organising the show as vice-chair with his wife Ann O’Mahony, who is Ballygarvan Show secretary.
