The summer Cheffins Cambridge Vintage Sale took place on 19 July. Although smaller than the April and October auctions, it provided an interesting selection of vintage and classic machinery.

The first tractor to go under the hammer was a 1916 Overtime Model R, which is believed to be the oldest example in existence. After intense bidding, this was finally knocked down at £34,500 (approximately €44,230).

This was followed by an original Ford 7810 Generation II, which sold for £9,400 (€12,051). Later on in the auction, a restored 1950 Ford 8NAN, fitted with a Howard reduction gearbox, found a new owner at £5,000 (€6,410).

A number of David Browns were sold for reasonable prices, with £4,000 (€5,128) enough to secure an original six-cylinder David Brown 50TD that has been in the same ownership since 1968. An ex-farm condition David Brown 900 from the same stable got away at £1,500 (€1,923). A David Brown 1390, with only 2,800 hours since new and benefited from a full nut and bolt restoration last year, found a new owner at £7,000 (€8,974).

Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors were also well represented on the day. A nicely restored Ferguson TEF20, fitted with a Lucas lighting kit, sold for £4,500 (€5,769), while a number of Massey Ferguson 135s made around £4,000 (€5,128) each. A Massey Ferguson 575 Multi-Power with just 4,623 hours on the clock was knocked down at £6,000 (€7,692).

Three original Nuffield tractors sold for bargain prices, two of which have been on the same farm since new. A 10/60 and 4/60 sold for £750 (€961) and £1,400 (€1,764), respectively.

Another Nuffield, fitted with a Perkins P4 diesel engine (the first diesel tractor Nuffield produced), sold for £1,000 (€1,282).

Other tractors of note included a 1986 John Deere 2040S X-E Series, a two-cylinder diesel 1955 Fahr D180H, and a 1929 Wallis 20-30, which sold for £3,400 (€4,359), £4,200 (€5,384) and £4,800 (€6,154), respectively.

Another Cheffins Vintage Sale took place on 16 August in Harrogate, Yorkshire.

All of the prices mentioned above are approximate euro values and exclude the buyer’s premium and VAT.
