Bullock numbers had halved to 220 animals and most of these were forward stores. Unlike recent weeks, there was a larger selection of continental cross bullocks on offer this Monday. These were very much sought after, with quality well paid for. Younger Friesians sold for up to €1.88/kg.

  • Five Charolais weighing 410kg sold for €1,160, or €2.83/kg
  • One Angus weighing 645kg sold for €1,240, or €1.92/kg
  • One Angus weighing 700kg sold for €1,380, or €1.97/kg
  • Five Charolais weighing 623kg sold for €1,380, or €2.22/kg
  • Five Charolais weighing 460kg sold for €1,140, or €2.48/kg
  • There were 80 heifers on offer, with traditional breeds dominating. The fact that there are still housed cattle coming out has seen buyers a little wary, with outlying cattle still picking up a premium.

  • One Hereford born October 2014 and weighing 445kg sold for €940, or €2.11/kg.
  • One Simmental born March 2014 and weighing 545kg sold for €1,110, or €2.04/kg.
  • Two Angus born February 2015 and weighing 307kg sold for €690, or €2.25/kg.
  • Three Angus born June 2015 and weighing 285kg sold for €670, €2.35/kg
  • Calves

    Calf numbers were slightly back on last week, with 1,120 calves sold. Friesian bull calves sold from €70 to €182 for younger calves, with stronger Friesian bull calves going for over €205. Hereford and Angus bulls made from €145 to €340 and Hereford and Angus heifer calves were most sought after in the calf ring, with prices ranging from €200 to €360. Continental calves sold from €285 for smaller calves, with Belgian blues selling for up to €415 for bulls while heifers made up to €430.

    Dry cow numbers and prices were slightly back on last week, with 120 on offer. As ever, cow age and condition were the big influences on prices:
