A smaller crowd of approximately 100 farmers attended to hear some of the points being made by the group about access to the proposed GLAS scheme. Spokesman for the group, Com O’Donnell said that they had met with the newly formed Commonage Implementation Committee on Friday last and said that there were "positives and negatives" to the meeting.

He said that they outlined their opposition to the wording around the collective agreement contained in the draft proposals. Other proposals raised from the floor were that all farmers with Natura Commonage should have priority access into GLAS+.

There were also legal questions raised from the floor about whether or not the Department of Agriculture can implement a 50% collective agreement without infringing the rights of the other commonage shareholders not involved in a collective agreement.

It is understood that the group will continue to picket the office of the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny in Castlebar until the collective agreement is abolished. Tomorrow (Wednesday 24 September) they will attend a meeting in Brussels, organised by MEP Marian Harkin to raise concerns with the draft RDP plan which the Department of Agriculture sent to Brussels in July.
