A circa 165-acre non-residential dairy farm close to the sea at Tacumshin, Co Wexford, was bid to €700,000 at last week’s public auction.

The property, which incorporated a circa 33-acre island, came to the market with a 14-unit milking parlour, 130 open cubicle spaces and a 110-foot slurry tank. Falling well shy of the €1.3m to €1.5m guide price, selling agent Gary Quinn, DNG Property People, Wexford, withdrew the farm at €700,000 and subsequently entered private negotiations. It’s understood that a higher offer has been submitted and a number of fresh inquiries have been taken since last Friday’s auction.

Despite generating a nice level of interest during the course of the selling campaign, many of these interested parties failed to turn up to the Ferrycarrig Hotel, Wexford, and bid on the property. It’s understood that there was a mix of inquiries to include tillage, drystock and dairy, both local and non-local.

The owner, who acquired circa 129 acres back in 2013, has spent the last three years developing the property to include the construction of a milking parlour and collecting yard, farm roadways, an underpass and a cubicle shed.

Within the same period, he also acquired a circa 33-acre island in Tacumshin lake which is located a short distance from the main block, as well as a circa 4.2 acre grass field close to the farmyard which gives the property access to some road frontage.

With views of the Saltee Islands, the property is currently home to a milking herd but was once the nurturing ground for tillage and vegetables. Just a field away from Rostoonstown strand, the land has been reseeded in recent years and fields are accessed from a network of internal farm roadways.
