Angus

  • Similar to other years Angus started slow taking until about April to see the rise in clearance rates and averages at sales.
  • Kilkenny multi-breed sales proved strong for the Angus this year with large numbers reaching the top averages of the season. These saw a top at the April Kilkenny sale where 96% of bulls averaged €2,905.
  • Friarstown Ideal Pete sired the most bulls who sold for the average price or more. €3,027 average for 11 bulls.
  • Five AI bulls sired a minimum of two bulls or more that averaged €3,000 or more. These were HF Rebel 53Y, Cornamuckla Lord Hardy, Bunlahy John G, Mogeely Joe and Friarstown Ideal Pete.
  • HF Rebel 53Y sired bulls to the highest average – Six at €3,400. Highest price for a Rebel son this season was €4,600, while he also sired a heifer to €5,350 back in April.
  • Overall, 79 young bulls sired by bulls standing in AI were sold for the average price or higher at their respective sales.
  • These 79 bulls sold to average €3,027.
  • Friesian

  • Friesian bulls seen a great start to the season price wise, topping a number of multi-breed sales.
  • Clearances however remained tougher throughout the spring, slowly increasing as numbers through the rings dwindled.
  • With such a broad array of AI bulls on offer for both EBI and type, no bull managed to stand out much ahead of others on the list.
  • Overall 32 young bulls sired by bulls standing in AI were. sold for the average price or higher at their respective sales
  • These 32 bulls sold to average €3,065.
  • Most consistent – HF Rebel 53Y

    Rebel 53Y was purchased at the Hamilton Farms bull sale back in 2012 for $95,000. His sire HF Tiger 5T was the supreme grand champion bull at the 2009 World Angus Forum. Not only did Rebel 53Y sire bulls to the highest average throughout the entirety of the season, he also sired a number of sale toppers. In February he sired the top priced bull in Carrick at €4,600, while in the same showgrounds in April he sired the top priced heifer at €5,350.
