At meetings held on Thursday night, the IFA’s Sligo executive backed Eddie Davitt, Leitrim Des McHugh and Mayo backed Padraic Joyce.
Following the nominations of Tom Turley in Galway and John O’Beirne in Roscommon on Wednesday, this means no candidate meets the requirement to be nominated by at least two county executives.
Nominations may still change ahead of this Friday afternoon’s deadline – expect a lot of horse-trading across Connacht all day.

As no candidate meets the required two county executive votes, it is unclear what will happen next. Options currently include an open vote, which appears the most likely, or possibly drawing lots. Either solution would require a rule change.
