A self-confessed “lucky” but quick-thinking Meath farmer has recovered his stolen cattle trailer. When the 8ft x 5ft trailer was stolen from his farm on 23 September, he assumed it would never be recovered. However, as he was driving past Moate, Co Westmeath, last week on the way to Ballinasloe Mart, he was overtaken by a van pulling his trailer. There were two ponies in the trailer.

Luckily, the van was also going to Ballinasloe so when he was close to the town, he made contact with the local gardaí, who intercepted the van. The farmer had retained proof of purchase of the trailer, as well as the serial number, so he was able to show that the trailer was his.

The farmer and the trailer will be reunited this week.
