Saturday's sale at Headford Mart saw another very lively trade for all good-quality types.
The store bullock trade was undoubtedly stronger than demand for heifers, with plenty of buyers active for all types.
The majority of good-quality bullocks over 500kg sold from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg, but numbers over 500kg on offer were not that high.
A share of plainer types in that weight range sold for about €2.00/kg to €2.10/kg.
Lighter stores
Stores from 400kg to 500kg were abundant, as were buyers. All fancy types were met with a solid trade and prices were similar to last week.
The average continental bullock made about €2.30/kg to €2.40/kg, with fancy types making well over €2.50/kg.
The tops of bullocks made €1,025 along with the weight, while the worst made €345 over.

This pair of Angus heifers, born June 2016 and weighing 435kg, sold for €990 (€2.28/kg).
Heifer trade
The heifer trade was not as brisk as the bullocks, but prices were still quite strong.
One feature in the heifer sale was that the quality on offer was well back in comparison to the store bullocks. Heifers over 500kg were scarce, but were a firm trade on last week.
Those from 400kg to 500kg were available in numbers and sold mainly from €2.30/kg to €2.40/kg, with top-quality heifers making up to €2.50/kg.
Plainer types were back a bit from that and sold from €2.00/kg to €2.15/kg. The top-priced heifer was a Simmental that made €1,260 for 490kg, with prices ranging mainly from €275 over to €735 over.
Weanlings
Weanling heifers sold mainly from €330 to €770 over, with the majority of prices for those around 300kg to 350kg ranging from €2.40/kg to €2.70/kg.
Weanling bulls were a solid trade and sold mainly from €450 over to €550 over or from €2.60/kg to €2.70/kg. The top price was a 340kg Blonde that made €890.

This Limouisin cross fat cow, born 2012 and weighing 740kg, sold for €1,500 (€2.03/kg).
Cull cows
The cull cow trade was firm. Most of those on offer were heavy, well-fed types that were slaughter-fit.
They sold mainly from €1,200 to €1,620, with plainer types making €650 upwards. Suckler cows sold from €990 to €1,450.
Sheep trade at Headford
The sheep trade was quite good. Hoggets made up to €95, while spring lambs sold from €102 to €126, with the majority making around €112 to €116.
Cull ewes sold from €65 to €105.
