There is strong interest in producer organisations for beef farmers with 15 responses already received by the Department of Agriculture.

ICOS, the IFA, ICBF and Bord Bia have all made submissions. The deadline for the public consultation has been extended for a few other organisations anxious to add their voice to the consultation.

Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney is pushing the concept strongly as a solution, saying he would like to set up producer organisations which would be legal entities, professionally run, representing 5,000, 7,000 or 10,000 beef farmers.
