Simmental
Champion Simmental went to the Neenan brothers, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo, for Ferna Destiny, sired by Hercules, with Anatrim Bodybuilder heifer calf at foot. Destiny then went on to become Interbreed Champion of the show for the Ferna herd, selected from a spectacular line up of breed champions. Reserve Champion Simmental went to Michael Oliver’s junior heifer, Elegant Start, from Swinford, Co Mayo.
Charolais
Judge Padge McGuire chose the McGovern brothers’ Senior Heifer, sired by Goldstar Echo, as Champion Charolais of the show – only to tap her forward later as Reserve Interbreed Champion.
Limousin
With 40 entries of Limousin cattle present on the day, this made the Limousin breed the largest represented at the show. Judge Martin Conroy, of Northern Ireland, worked hard to select a champion from such a large array. Donie McKeon’s September-born bull calf was tapped forward as Champion, after achieving success in the best Limousin Pair class.
Angus
Champion Angus went to Bernard Kerins’s two- year-old, AYR-sired Senior Heifer, chosen by judge Jude Benson.
Shorthorn
Doing the double in the Shorthorn section, the Flatley brothers of the Glann herd secured both Champion and Reserve.
Belgian Blue
Champion Belgian Blue of the show was awarded to George Hegarty’s September-born heifer calf sired by Heatherview Frances, with reserve going to the Ronan brothers’, Rector-sired heifer calf.
Commercial Champion
The Commercial Champion was judged by James McPadden and went to TJ Duffy, Westport, Co Mayo with his Limousin X Heifer by Millbrook Dartangan. She was tapped forward from a high-quality line-up of commercial first prize winners after being placed first in the breeding heifer class.
Young Handlers
The year’s Young Handlers class was highly contested, leaving to judge James McPadden the difficult decision of selecting his best handlers from a class of very capable youngsters. Young Handler debutant Patricia Moore and her pedigree 2015-born Limousin bull calf came out on top.
