Quad-X has developed a wide range of ATV equipment to tackle all aspects of weed control. According to Quad-X, these machines are ideal for areas too wet or awkward for tractor access.

The Quad-X range of mowers, sprayers and booms, and weed wipers, can offer a solution for some landowners with access to a quad.

The Quad-X ATV Power Shredder has been designed to shred heavy rushes and other dense vegetation. The rotor is designed to rotate at a higher speed (RPM) than a tractor flail, ensuring momentum and faster travel speed, according to Quad-X. The Power Shredder chops the scrub/rushes very finely into a mulch-like material and spreads it more evenly. Quad-X claims that cut rushes contain 70% NPK value of farmyard manure.

The Quad-X ATV spot sprayers and booms provide an alternative to a knapsack and are much easier to set up than large tractor sprayers. They can be used on any ATV or utility vehicle and Quad-X can also provide connections for using their sprayers with tractors or 4x4s.

The most popular Quad-X sprayer is the Pro Spray, according to the manufacturer. This is equipped with a high-capacity pump carrying a two-year warranty, which can accommodate spot spraying and boom spraying. It fits on to any ATV quickly and has a thick-walled UV-protected tank and comes with five metres of hose and a durable non-corrosive aluminium lockable hand lance.

If you already have a sprayer tank, Quad-X can offer a range of compatible booms from a 5ft spray width to 16ft.

Quad-X launched the innovative Wipeout 2 this season. The second-generation patented design gives 14% less chemical usage, according to the manufacturer. With these latest design advances, Quad-X claims the Wipeout 2 can achieve 100% kill in one pass with no dangerous spray drift, while protecting clover in the grass. The new machine is designed to follow over the ground contours, allowing it to cope with hilly, undulating fields. The machine is priced at €9,000 plus VAT.

Company origins

Quad-X was founded by Sean Blaney, based in a small livestock farm near Ballymena, Co Antrim. He started the company in 1993. The business originally started repairing ATVs, moving into sales with Suzuki.

Sean says that the demand for new equipment has been driven by customers. They are looking for solutions that enable them to farm fields unsuitable for a conventional tractor. The machines built at Quad-X are designed to help farmers save time and money, according to Sean.
