According to the Department of Agriculture the online payment system for TAMS II is now open for applications. Many farmers who completed TAMS II investments earlier in the year were feeling the financial strain that comes with making a significant capital investment on their farms.

This will come as welcome news to many but some fear the length of time it may take from once a payment claim is submitted to actually receiving payment for completed work. Some farmers who are ready to make a payment claim should note that they may have to carry out a health and safety course first.

Farm Safety Code of Practice or Green Cert

According to the Department it is mandatory that all applicants will have completed within the last five years prior to the submission of their claim for payment the half day Farm Safety Code of Practice (given by Teagasc or other trained persons) or have completed the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (Green Cert).

IFA Rural Development Chairman Joe Brady has insisted that Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed must now ensure that farmers who are now making their claims for payment are paid speedily.

Joe Brady said delays in payments and approvals have left a very sour taste in farmers’ mouths and the Minister must now clearly demonstrate his commitment to this vitally important farm investment scheme.
