The number of cattle culled for TB in the first quarter of 2017 was 2,849, an increase of 252 head on the same period of 2016. Herd incidence was 2.60%, an increase of 0.21%. Disease level, as measured by reactors per 1,000 cattle tested (APT), was 1.63, up from 1.53. The number of cattle tested was 1,749,714, an increase of almost 54,000 head.

Among the black-spot counties, disease levels fell sharply in east Wicklow to 2.04 APT. The national average was 1.63.

It also fell in west Wicklow, but not as sharply, to 6.11 APT and in north Tipperary to 2.56.

It rose in counties Cavan and Monaghan, to 3.91 and 3.39 respectively.
