The event will include a short seminar where current challenges with farm safety will be discussed. Speakers will include John McNamara, Teagasc Health and Safety Officer, John Kennedy, an inspector in the Health and Safety Authority, and Frances McArdle, Head of Health and Training with Height for Hire.

The seminar will be followed by a safety visit to Kildalton College farm where particular emphasis will be given to working at heights.

Speaking in advance of the event John McNamara said that farmers should give particular attention to safety to prevent being knocked down by moving farm machinery during the busy spring season. He added that when working at heights, there is a need for on-going attention to safety, as the risk of a fatality rises by a factor of seven when this is taking place.

The event is being held in association with the South East branch of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the professional body for occupational safety and health professionals.

The event, which will take place from 2.15pm to 5.15pm, is free of charge, booking is not required and all farmers are welcome to attend.
