European grain markets finally showed some support, albeit small, for wheat and maize prices during Wednesday’s trade in Paris. In the US, wheat prices improved slightly while maize continued to slide as weather conditions in South America continue to improve.

Europe

On the Euronext exchange (MATIF) in Paris, prices for May 2016 delivered wheat gained almost €3/t to finish Wednesday’s session just over €161/t, while May 2017 delivered wheat lifted slightly to just under €179/t.

European maize (corn) futures from Paris were steady to improving with June 2016 maize gaining €1/t to finish at €157/t, while prices for June 2017 delivered maize were flat at €170/t.

Rapeseed futures continued to worsen as May 2016 delivered rapeseed lost €1/t to finish below €354/t, while May 2017 rapeseed futures fell slightly to sit at €351/t.

Chicago

On the Chicago exchange (CBOT), cereal futures were mixed with gains for wheat prices as maize prices declined.

SRW wheat for May 2016 delivery lifted by $1/t to $171/t (€151/t), while May 2017 delivered SRW wheat edged slightly higher to $188/t (€166/t).

US maize (corn) prices saw further short declines with May 2016 delivered maize falling slightly to sit below $144/t (€127/t), while maize for May 2017 delivery was flat atbelow $157/t (€138/t).
