Harvest progress has been challenging. Broken weather continues in much of the country. There was an amount of cutting done last week, as growers moved into early-sown spring barley and winter wheat. Most yield reports have been good, but some are also disappointing.

Grain quality appears to be good to very good, but high protein in malting barley remains a concern for crops still to be harvested. However, the prospect of a prolonged broken spell could cause KPH numbers to drop.

Straw has been a challenge, but there was a lot tidied up last weekend, ahead of the current break in the weather.

Stubbles

The broken weather provides both a time opportunity and soft conditions for stubble cultivation, along with adequate moisture for seed germination. While this is an additional job and a cost, it is also an investment in your future.
