Up to 80 people turned up to last week’s auction of a 67.5-acre residential farm at The Height, Ballinglen, Tinahely, Co Wicklow, which saw the property sell in three separate lots for a combined total of €660,000.

Located 2.5 miles north of Tinahely, the property came with a two-storey residence, a range of cut-stone outbuildings and a three-bay A-roofed shed with lean-to.

Although three bidders drove the entire to €650,000 at the auction, it was the lots that won out on the day.

The first lot comprising circa 6.3 acres was bought by an adjoining dairy farmer for €65,000; the house and outbuildings on circa 3.8 acres were snapped up by a local for €145,000; while the circa 57.4 acres was knocked down to an adjoining farmer for €450,000. This gave a combined total of €660,000 or an average price of almost €9,800/acre.

The property was guided at €500,000 prior to auction. David Quinn, Carnew and Gorey, handled the sale.

34-acre holding near Headford sells after auction

A 34-acre residential package at Cloonavarnogue, Headford, Co Galway, sold after last week’s public auction.

Selling agent Gerry Mullin, Headford, opened the bidding at €270,000 and with the help of three interested parties, the sale price steadily progressed to €295,000. With no further movement, Gerry withdrew the farm at €295,000 and entered private negotiations with the highest bidder.

It’s understood that a deal was agreed afterwards for a figure close to the reserve. The buyer is thought to be a Galway city-based person but is not local.

Around 28 acres of the farm is described as “good quality agricultural land” with circa four acres of lowlying ground. The property came to the market with a three-bed bungalow in need of updating, a two-bay hayshed and a range of outbuildings.
