The Revanent. From the Oscar-winning director who brought you Birdman and Babel, Alejandro G Iñárritu provides us with a breathtaking adventure. The film tells the story of legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass, and his exploration of the uncharted wilderness during the 1800s. When he suffers a bear attack, his team abandons him for dead, leaving Glass fighting for survival in a hostile environment. The film stars the ever-brilliant Tom Hardy, as well as a riveting exhibition of acting by Leonardo Di Caprio, a performance that many believe will deliver him his long-awaited Oscar. The film’s highly-anticipated debut on Irish screens is 15 January.

The National Sealife centre in Bray. A perfect post-Christmas family trip, the facility provides us with 24 spectacular displays and over 70 different species present in the complex, such as piranhas, octopus, starfish and seahorses. Sing the night away to Mike Denver, as he prepares for his upcoming tour of Ireland. He plays in the Diamond Coast hotel, Enniscrone, on 16 January, with prolific guests such as Philomena Begley, Ray Lynam and Mick Flavin in support. The Portuma native has become one of Ireland’s most popular country singers since releasing his first album back in 2003, with songs such as My Darling Kathleen and The Day of my Return gaining acclaim and popularity.
