There was no overall champion of the show in Longford yesterday, but the strength and depth of the cattle in each breed section was exceptional. Following on from her successes at numerous other shows already this year, Bailey’s Ice Princess took the overall Limousin championship for the Connell’s from Oldcastle, Co. Meath. The 25 month old Bailey’s Darwin daughter seems to be getting better every day she goes out.

In the Charolais section Ronan and Michael Carey from Killucan, Co Westmeath took top honours with their September 2014 born bull sired by their stock bull Sionhill Commandeur. In reserve was new comer to the show scene, Austin Garvey from Carrick – on – Shannon Co Leitrim. Austin’s bull calf was born in January 2015 and is sired by no other than CF 52.

Padraig Mc Grath from the well-known Kye herd in Elphin, Co Roscommon claimed top spot in the Hereford section with his 12 month old heifer, a daughter of Steil Gerard. In reserve were Tom and Anselm Fitzgerald from Moate, Co. Westmeath with their yearling bull.

Carrying on from their recent success at other shows, Amanda Bogan and Conor Craig from edgeworthstown, Co Longford claimed the Angus Championship with Crerogue Elisa J294 by Jerusalem Faraday and her 4 month old heifer calf at foot. The Shorthorn section was dominated by Noel and Lisa Dowd from Creggs, Co. Galway as they scooped both the Champion and Reserve championships.

The small section of the Belted Galloway’s was well represented by Helen and Peter Fox from Garryneagh pedigrees, Ballymahon, Co Longford, as they headed up proceedings with their picturesque cow and calf outfit.

In the commercial ring Marie and Joe Mc Cormack from Ballymahon, Co. Longford continued their winning streak with their 4 month old Belgian Blue cross heifer. She is a daughter of Black Dubati out of a CF 52 bred cow. This is the third show in a row that this young heifer calf has won the commercial championship. In the other commercial championship, the all-Ireland baby beef champion went to Andrew Mc Carthy from Co. Clare for his 22 month old Limousin cross heifer.
