The poultry sector has been dealing with two further cases of bird flu in the past seven days.

On Wednesday last, the Department of Agriculture confirmed a whooper swan on the Leitrim/Longford border was found to have the H5N8 strain of the disease.

A further case of the disease was discovered on Monday in Co Roscommon, also in a whooper swan.

There have now been five cases of bird flu in Ireland since the end of December.

The Department of Agriculture continues to enforce a rule that all farmed birds should be housed and segregated from wild birds.
