“US corn (maize) export sales and shipments lag well behind last year at this time,” according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE).

The USDA expects South Africa’s maize production for 2015-2014 to be 12.75mt, down 0.75mt from last month’s estimates. However, this is an increase of 1.95mt from last year’s crop.

The USDA forecasts Australian wheat production to reach 26mt – a drop of 1mt from last month, but up 2.3mt from last year. Yield is forecast at 1.88t/ha, 3% below the five-year average.

The USDA forecasts 2015-16 Australia rapeseed production at 3.2mt, down 100,000t from last month, and down 200,000t from last year. Yield is forecast at 1.28t/ha, matching the five-year average.

The USDA forecasts Argentinian maize for 2015-2016 at 25.6mt, up 1.6mt from last month, but down 900,000t from last year. Yield is estimated at 8t/ha, unchanged from last month but down 3.4% from last year.

USDA forecasts 2015-16 Brazilian maize production at 81.5mt, up 1.5mt from last month, but down 3.5mt from last year’s record. Yield is forecast at 5.16mt, unchanged from last month.

USDA estimates Canada rapeseed production for 2015/16 at 15.5mt, up 1.2mt from last month but down 910,000t from last year. Yield is estimated at 1.96t/ha, up 8.3% from last month but slightly down from last year’s figures.

The summer heat and lack of rain did not damage the wheat crop.

The biggest EU production changes this month occurred in the UK, which is up 600,000t to 16.1mt; Germany, up 500,000t to 26.5mt; the Czech Republic,up 200,000t to 5.3mt; and Romania, up 200,000t to 7.3mt.
