A record number of attendees rocked up at this year’s FTMTA Farm Machinery Show, which takes place every two years.
There was a 10% increase in the number of people who came to the show this year compared with 2015.
According to James Maloney, Irish Farmers Journal machinery editor, buyer interest was strong at the event, even among the beleaguered dairy and tillage sectors.
“Sentiment from Ireland’s biggest machinery show was essentially positive,” he said. “Deals on many of the stands for balers and mowers were completed and even negotiated from cold with new buyers.”
Maloney added that even dairy and tillage farmers, who had a bad income year in 2016, were among those showing an interest. “The dairy farmers were optimistic and the tillage farmers were resilient,” he said. “Dairy farmers were looking a lot at grass mowers, while tillage farmers were looking at efficiency and investments that could make them a good return.”
