Beef specialist Ciaran Lenehan spoke with new BETTER farmer Robert Abbott, who keeps a herd of 35 suckler cows in Co Longford. At present, the herd’s calving pattern is split between spring and late-summer. Here they discuss when is the best time for Robert’s cows to calve.

Farmers in the northwest have welcomed the move by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment to support a ban on fracking. News correspondent Thomas Hubert spoke to Tommy Earley, an organic suckler farmer in Co Roscommon, who says fracking poses too big of a risk at the moment. Tommy also hosts tourists on his farm and here he explains why the undisturbed landscape holds great potential.
