On Monday, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny took part in a public meeting on agriculture and Brexit in Clane, Co Kildare. News correspondent Paul Mooney met him and other Fine Gael politicians at the event.

On Tuesday, Bord Bia revealed the details of the new sustainability assurance scheme for beef and sheep. Paul Mooney met the agency’s quality assurance sector manager, Michael Houlihan, to find out more.

On Monday, IFA president Joe Healy was in Brussels to meet Michel Barnier, the European Union’s chief negotiator on Brexit. There, he told markets specialist Phelim O’Neill that the man in charge of leading separation talks with the UK appeared sympathetic to the consequences for Irish farmers.

Dairygold published its annual results on Tuesday, with profits taking a hit as the co-op supported its members through the period of low milk prices. Its chief executive, Jim Woulfe, sat down with agribusiness editor Eoin Lowry to share his outlook.

The level of MCPA herbicide in Irish waters is rising and farmers are being asked to take action on this environmental issue. Aidan Moody of the Department of agriculture told Peter Varley about the reasons for this problem, and ways of tackling it.

Last week, beef specialist Ciarán Lenehan was in the Netherlands to see where Irish calves go after leaving these shores as live exports. There, he met Cirsten Klarenbeek, who brings 1,000 calves for slaughter as veal every week.
