Monday will be a showery day with some sunny spells. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in western and northern counties. Southwest to west winds will be fresh and gusty. Top temperatures of 12°C to 15°C.
On Tuesday, showers will become isolated and it will be a mostly dry day with some sunny spells. However, showers will continue to affect the north and northeast until evening. It will be cool and breezy with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds which will ease somewhat towards evening. Top temperatures of 11°C to 13°C
Wednesday and Thursday will see more settled conditions across the country. Both days will see mostly dry weather and some sunny spells. Winds will be light variable or northwesterly. It will be cool with top temperatures around 11°C to 13°C. Nights will be cold with lowest temperatures around 3°C to 6°C leading to some frost.
Friday will continue to be mostly dry but winds will become light southeasterly as the ridge of high pressure declines and some showers may affect the south and east.
Over the weekend the weather is likely to become unsettled again as frontal rain pushes northeastwards over the country in a strengthening southeasterly wind.
Rain
During the coming week, rainfall accumulations for areas along the west, northwest and southwest will remain slightly below average, achieving about 70% to 80% of expected average rainfall. However, elsewhere will receive slightly above normal with the southeast expected to receive up to twice its expected normal rainfall.
Temperatures
Mean air temperatures are expected to dip slightly below normal in most places during the coming week. However, the far north coast is expected to reach slightly above normal temperatures. Soil temperature values for the past week were generally between 1°C and 2°C above normal.
Sunshine
Sunshine is likely to be variable over the next few days with unsettled conditions, but current indications suggest a more settled pattern will emerge midweek, so sunshine totals should recover somewhat then.
Drying and spraying conditions
Mid-autumn is the time of year when good drying becomes less and less likely in Ireland. The anticipated unsettled conditions for the next few days indicate poor conditions. However, there might be a brief improvement from Tuesday next week. The same goes for spraying conditions.
Field conditions
Trafficability will remain testing on poorly and moderately drained lands for the coming week, however moderately drained soils should improve by midweek. For the time being, well drained soils are maintaining trafficability.
