Wexford land almost

clinches €13,000/acre

It may have been a game of cat and mouse at the start, but sheer resilience certainly paid off for selling agent David Quinn, Carnew and Gorey, when he dropped the hammer at just short of €13,000/acre for a 39-acre parcel of land at Knocknalour, Bunclody, Co Wexford. The property, which is laid out in three tillage fields, has limited road frontage but was without waste and attracted a total of three bidders at last week’s auction.

On the day, David took a high opening bid of €400,000 but things became a little sticky after this as the sale price slowly progressed to €422,000. However, it wasn’t until David declared the farm on the market at €422,000 that things really took off and the two main bidders finally got down to business. Although bids as low as €2,000 were taken, the sale price steadily moved past the €500,000 mark and later sold for €505,000 (€12,948/acre) to a local farming family. The underbidder was a farmer from Co Carlow.

11-acre field near Arklow

Elsewhere, the same agent sold an 11-acre field on the Wexford/Wicklow border at Johnstown Hill, Arklow, after last week’s auction. With three bidders in contention, the property was withdrawn at €130,000 but sold shortly afterwards for a higher figure to a local farmer. It was guided in the region of €10,000 to €12,000/acre prior to auction.
