Galway

“We lost our president – that’s a tough day,” said Galway county chair Pat Murphy. “We had to make a decision on when an election can take place. The rules committee will govern that. They will meet immediately and report back to us so that we can make a decision. It’s likely to be early in the new year.”

“We’re doing everything we can to address the concerns of members. Con Lucey will examine all aspects of pay – right down to us at county chair level. We’re hiding nothing.”

North Tipperary

“It’s been a protracted, marathon national council meeting,” said Tim Cullinane. “It was a very difficult day with the resignation of our president. But some very clear decisions were made. Con Lucey will come out with clear recommendations. Plus, we’re putting a hold on the severance package to the former general secretary. This is the start for the IFA to regain the confidence of members.”

Kildare

“It’s been a long day,” said Kildare county chair Pat Farrell. “Hopefully this can put issues to bed and we can move forward. I think that the decisions made today can start to satisfy members’ concerns. Everything will be out and we’ve come clean now – which was overdue.”

Kerry

“I am satisfied with the steps taken,” said Kerry county chair Flor McCarthy. “But I think there needs to be more. When we set a date for an election, that will move it on. That’s likely to be in March or April. The motions of no confidence haven’t gone away. They weren’t withdrawn. In fact, there could be more of them put forward when more county executives meet over coming days. I think that all the senior officers, the president’s committee, will have to be re-elected.”
