With the fallout from ABP’s decision to halt the automatic collection of levies, farmers will be left wondering if other bodies will follow suit?

The Irish Farmers Journal has contacted other groups which collect the European Involvement Fund (EIF) to see if they would also be halting the automatic collection of levies.

It would appear that the majority of marts, processors, co-ops and merchants will adopt a wait-and-see approach. There will be no knee-jerk reaction to ABP’s move.

While many of these bodies take flak from their farmers for continuing to collect the levy on behalf of the IFA, the ICMSA and Macra, there are no immediate plans to halt the collection.

What remains to be seen is how farmers will react to this and what they want their mart, factory, processor or merchant to so with the levy.
