On Monday the British Limousin society witnessed a full clearance at Dungannon, with averages up by nearly £300. Then Tuesday, again at Dungannon, the Irish Aberdeen Angus society continued this good run with all 14 bulls present selling for an average of £3,000. This average is up a substantial £655 on the equivalent sale last year.

Topping trade with a bid of 6,200gns was Johnathon and Lisa Doyle’s Drumhill Icebreaker (pictured above). Born June 2015, Icebreaker’s breeding combines strength on both sides. Sire is Blelack Equity out of the son of the 32,000gns Blelack Eyrie cow, while the dam is Friarstown Ideal J126, dam of successful AI bull Friarstown Ideal Pete. Successful bidders were Robert and Guy Clements who run a 50 cow suckler herd, and are members of the Aberdeen Angus Beef Scheme. This makes it a very successful week for the Doyle family having also secured 8,500gns for a Nightingale Proud Jake son at Stirling early last week.

Next best at 4,000gns was the first prize-winning Woodvale Network R854 (pictured above) bred by Alwyn and Carol Armour and sons. This May 2015-born entry was sired by the herd’s jointly-owned stock bull Wedderlie Net Profit E916, and is out of Woodvale Nelmerica. He sold to Robin Boyd who was bidding on behalf of AI Services (NI) Ltd.

Judge on the day Pat Cahill, from the 40-cow Shankill Herd in County Cavan, awarded the male championship to Coolermoney Ronaldo R563 (pictured above). Ronaldo is no stranger to success having also clinched the senior championship at the Balmoral Pedigree Calf Fair in November. This September 2015-born son of Netherton Mr Brazilian E377 was bred and exhibited by Adrian and Graeme Parke, Strabane. While his dam is Nakkeg Nord 913 daughter Coolermoney Rachel K051, a former calf champion and yearling heifer champion at the Northern Ireland Angus calf show. He attracted a bid of 2,900gns from Oliver McKeown, Ballynahinch, County Down.

Runner-up in the male championship line-up was the March 2015-born Island Farm Flannigan R213 (pictured above) bred by Kevin McOscar. Sired by stock bull Glenbuchat Edgar M324 and out of Glenbuchat Fearn M345, Flannigan was the first lot into the sale ring and sold for 2,300gns to R. Stewart from Toomebridge.

Only two led females were exhibited on the day. Topping the sale and claiming the female championship was Drumlone Esther R776 (pictured above) from Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw. Sired by Blelack Egotist K531, she is bred from the Highland Colossal 101E daughter Drumlone Essy G702 and sold at 2,200gns to Gareth Sproule’s as a foundation female for his Ardbarron Herd in Castlederg.
