The annual Cork County interbreed senior beef bull title is one of the most keenly contested beef championships on the Munster show circuit each season. The competition is open to senior beef bulls over one year old of any beef breed with qualifying heats taking place at Bandon, Clonakilty, Cork, Charleville, Dunmanway and Barryroe shows and the finals taking place at Carbery Show just outside the town of Skibbereen in West Cork.
Judge John Searson, a noted pedigree Belgian Blue breeder from Roscrea, Co Tipperary, had the onerous task of judging this year’s competition. A strong entry of aged bulls were present on the day with a top prize of €400 on offer for the winner.
After careful deliberations in the judging ring, Donal Moloney, Roo West, Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, emerged as the overall winner of the interbreed competition with his homebred yearling Limousin bull Ardnacrusha Jaguar. This bull has won a plethora of prizes and championships over the 2016 summer show season, highlighted by taking the supreme breed championship at the RUAS Spring Show at Balmoral in May. He was also the supreme Limousin champion at the South East Clare Show just last weekend too. This bull was born in November 2014 and is sired by Wilodge Vantastic.
Interbreed championship
Trevor Dudley, Dovea, Thurles, Co Tipperary, took the reserve interbreed championship with his Hereford senior stock bull Glaslough Judge.

This bull has enjoyed a string of five consecutive first prize wins in recent weeks and also took the Hereford breed championship honours earlier at the show. Born in March 2010, this bull is sired by Cill Cormaic Playboy and was bred by Sam and Nigel Heatrick, Glaslough, Co Monaghan.
Taking the third prize spot in this year’s competition were Albert and Jennifer DeCogan, Killamuckey, Castlemartyr, Co Cork, with their Aberdeen Angus bull Wedderlie Blackbox J935. This September 2009-born bull was imported from the UK some years ago and was the overall male champion at the National Livestock Show, Tullamore, last August.
