The biggest proportion of lots on offer were cows of a range of ages and breeds that are due to calve down from mid-February to the Charolais bull. Average price for the 22 cows sold was £1,208.

Most of the cows were big in size, R grading in conformation and were carrying plenty of condition. The sharpest bidding was for cows that were more maternal in appearance and bigger in size, with a few better conformed cows meeting a slightly duller-than-expected trade. Top price in-calf cow was the first one sold, a Charolais-registered cow born in April 2009 that made £1,555.

Other top prices included a July 2008-born Limousin cow that made £1,410 and a May 2009-born Charolais registered cow that made £1,450. Demand did not weaken much for older cows on show; an October 2007-born Simmental made £1,180 and an April 2006-born Salers made £1,000.

A few cows with young calves at foot were sold at the beginning of the sale. An October 2013-born Limousin heifer and her Limousin heifer calf made £1,100. A September 2009-born Limousin cow and her Charolais bull calf made a very strong price of £1,705.

Demand appeared to reduce for the in-calf heifers on show, however, with five being sold of the nine on offer. The heifers were in calf to the Limousin bull and due to calf from March. Top price was £1,310 for a large Limousin heifer. Other heifers on offer were smaller in size, with the average price across the five sold being £1,131.
