Field work across parts of the country stalled on Wednesday, as heavy rains hit the country on Tuesday night.

Met Éireann issued a status orange warning on Tuesday night across all counties in Munster, as well as Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford – its second most severe warning. As much as 40mm of rain fell in places on Tuesday night.

The good weather broke late on Tuesday after several days of warm, sunny and dry weather.

The current forecast is for heavy showers for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
