A fatal accident occurred on a farm in Ennistymon, Co Clare, on Thursday (20 April), the Health and Safety Authority have said.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the incident involved a tractor and HSA investigation is under way.

The HSA was notified about the incident on Friday and an investigation is due to take place on Monday.

The victim has been named locally as 73-year-old Michael O’Loughlin.

This incident brings the total number of farm deaths in the Republic of Ireland in 2017 so far to six.

The HSA reports that 54 people were killed in farm accidents involving tractors and farm vehicles between 2007 and 2016.
