It was standing room only for the clearance sale of farm machinery in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, last Saturday 22 October.

Described by the auctioneer, Michael Doyle, as a “rare auction of pristine machinery”, it was held on the premises of a well-known farmer and contractor and attracted approximately 2,000 people from right across the country and even as far away as Scotland and Wales.

Despite the fact that there was no reserve, the machinery, tools and tractors went for high prices. A 2007 JCB 412S loader made €58,000, a 2010 T6080 tractor hit €54,000 and a 2000 TS115 made €30,000. Other machines such as the Kverneland NG-3 301 3M power harrow made €8,000, while a McHale bale wrapper sold for €8,000 and the 2009 Strautmann Giga-Vitesse silage wagon made €44,000.

There were several keen bidders for the 2011 Bredal spreader and it reached the €30,000 mark.

“The prices reflected the fact that the machinery was genuine, carefully looked after by one owner and had low hours and mileage,” the auctioneer said after the sale, adding that the unexpected turnout saw a total of 622 people register to bid.
